For my final project in Materials and Methods I wanted to use this opportunity to explore elements in the art field that I haven't really gotten the chance to explore before in my Graphic Design experience at the University. I've recently noticed that my interest in 2D animation has grown and more so improved I wanted to further dive into this interest and create a stop motion video.
I have always enjoyed stop motion and I would like to make a stop motion/clay-mation video short. I realize that this will take lots of time so to help me with my patience I have decided to make a run cycle animation first. Given that I would be taking a lot of time on both styles of animation I decided to use my character Valorie from my comic book series Proud Humans.
I started first by sketching the character in very basic poses on paper just making sure I had all the details in place before I moved into the computer. Once that was all done I brought the images into adobe Illustrator. I knew there was a way to make an animation using illustrator but I was unsure how...that is when I looked up a tutorial on the Adobe website. It really has the most to do with how you export the files. Once you make every frame of your animation on a separate layer in illustrator then you must export your illustrator file as a flash SWF file and convert layers to frames.
I know that in a run cycle it needs to eventually loop all together so the last frame of illustration needs to come back to first one. I decided to do 8 illustrations and export the illustration at a 12 frame per second rate. Animation seems to be all about detail and I can't wait to see what I come up with after I finish the stop motion animation I am still debating on what exactly I will create.
